Safeway at University Town Center

The latest development in University Town Center (UTC) is the mixed-use project anchored by Safeway at the intersection of America Boulevard and East-West Highway. The 85,524-square-foot development was led by Echo Realty in partnership with The Bernstein Companies and is scheduled to opened in April 2016. The Safeway itself will house a Starbucks, a pharmacy and a bank. Other tenants will include Town Center Wine & Spirits, Unleashed by Petco, Phenix Salon, Pollo Campero and a 10,000-square foot MedStar primary & urgent care facility. The project will also include a two-story parking garage.

The $26 million development was partially financed with a City of Hyattsville $400,000 Revitalization Tax Credit and $3.1 million in financing from Prince George’s County, of which $2 million was from the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) and $1.1 million in the form of a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) program.

University Town Center (UTC) is a multi-billion dollar mixed-use hub featuring 14 million square feet of office space, a 910 bed student housing building, several condominium buildings, dozens of dining and retail options and a 14-screen movie theater.
