Pyramid Atlantic at the Arcade

An $3.5 million project, The Arcade at 4318 Gallatin Street is an adaptive reuse phased rehabilitation to restore the structure as a future anchor of the Gateway Arts District.  Grant funding from the State of Maryland and Prince George’s County have supported the stabilization of the structure and have served as a springboard for revitalization of the building.

The site was originally the home of Pinckney Memorial Church and over its 90 years has served the community in a variety of uses, including as a silent movie theater, bowling alley, arcade and early shopping venue. The Arcade is a contributing resource to the City's National Register Historic District. 

In 2015 the City agreed to a partnership with Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center to finish the build-out and lease the building. Pyramid Atlantic is a non-profit arts center that works to advance the arts of printmaking, papermaking and bookbinding. Pyramid Atlantic has signed a 25-year lease for the facility and has finished retrofitting the interior of the arcade to include studio space for individual artists, classrooms and workshop spaces, two galleries and meeting facilities. As part of the partnership, City residents are eligible for a 15% discount off of Pyramid Atlantic programming. 

The Arcade building opened in August 2016. In addition to Pyramid Atlantic, the Arcade is also home to the offices of two additional long-time local community organizations: the Neighborhood Design Center and the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area (ATHA).
